Federal MP Bob Katter has been booted from a regional pub after failing to demonstrate his vax status over the weekend.

In a press statement issued by Mr Katter’s office today, he said he was fully covid vaccinated but just didn’t have a smartphone so he couldn’t flash his vax status to the bar staff.

It was “un-Australian” to take away people’s right to assemble at the local pub, he said.

“I’ve had both of my covid vaccinations, but I don’t have a smart phone so I can’t check-in using the state government app, but I did give them options to verify,” he said.

“However, the local media and police was called. This is un-Australian. We have a right to associate and assemble. Full praise to the local police officer carrying out their duties in a very respectful manner.”

Rumour has it Katter is taking the slogan ‘Beer is a basic human right’ to the next federal election.

The police confirmed that officers were called to the Tamworth Hotel on Sunday. Mr Katter and his mates were drinking in an alcohol-free zone, The Australian reported.

“Police attended and gave a warning to some members of the group about drinking in the alcohol-free zone and they complied,” a spokesperson told NCA NewsWire.

“No further police action will be taken.”
