Patients with depression are less likely to relapse if they are treated to remission, says psychiatrist Dr Tom Paterson
Some psychotherapists get excited if there is an improvement in a patientâs depression, he says.
âThey will tell you that the drug works if you get somebody 50% better on a MADRS scale. But what you want is to get people better completely.
âIf the patient is not completely better when youâve treated them, their risk of relapse is substantially higher. So I would urge you to make sure when you treat patients, you treat them to remission.â
