Non-invasive prenatal testing has really turned antenatal care upside-down, says Professor Graeme Suthers
Non-invasive prenatal testing has really turned antenatal care upside-down, says Professor Graeme Suthers.
“We now have, within a few short years, the establishment of tests widely available across Australia that allow for the prenatal screening for Down syndrome, trisomies 18, 13 and other chromosome abnormalities and this can be done on a sample of the mother’s blood,” Professor Graeme Suthers, a clinical geneticist and genetic pathologist at Sonic Helathcare, said.
“I think it’s extraordinary that we’ve achieved so much so quickly in that time.”
