“As a rate of overall presentations, it would be very uncommon,” Associate Professor David Orchard, the director of dermatology at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, said.
“But there are certain situations where your suspicion of food allergy should be very high.
“And they are almost limited to the babies that come in with eczema and the more severe the eczema is, the more suspicion there would be for food allergy being relevant.”
Food allergy might also be considered as a cause of eczema if a person had associated gastrointestinal symptoms or was losing weight, he said.
