Domestic violence is the leading cause of death for young women in Australia
Domestic violence is the leading cause of death for young women in Australia.
On average, one woman dies per week from family violence around Australia.
Family violence is the leading cause of death, illness and injury for women aged between 20 and 45.
“It is a significant issue,” says Scott Mills, the manager of Family Violence Practice Development at Relationships Australia Victoria.
“The cost is in the billions per year.”
There has been a 105% increase of reporting of domestic violence to police over the last 7 or 8 years, he says.
In this video, Mr Mills discusses:
– What is the extent of family violence in Australia?
– Has the incidence been increasing?
– How much of the police’s work is related to family violence?
– Who is most likely to be the instigator of family violence?
– What is the relationship between family violence and the media?
