Associate Professor Patrina Caldwell breaks down the major underlying causes of bedwetting
There are three major causes of bedwetting, says Associate Professor Patrina Caldwell, a Sydney-based paediatrician at The Children’s Hospital in Westmead.
“So basically, there are three factors: deep sleep and being unable to wake when your bladder is full; a small or unstable bladder; and making too much urine at night,” she says.
“So, if your bladder is not as big as the amount of [urine] you make and you can’t wake up, you would wet. And so, our treatments targets each of these three factors.”
