There are many potential causes of diarrhoea in travellers, ranging from infectious diseases to fish toxins.

Infectious causes are more common in younger travellers, but non-infectious causes, such as ciguatera (a reef fish toxin found in far north Queensland), emotional stress and diet can cause diarrhoea in travellers too.

In this video, Dr Bernard Hudson, a microbiologist and infectious disease physician at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, covers the main causes.
