About 70% of Australian say that they want to die at home but very few Australians do
About 70% of Australian say that they want to die at home but only about 14% of Australians get to, says Professor Liz Reymond, a palliative care specialist.
“Immediately that represents a service gap,” she says.
Most deaths today are expected, which means that they can be planned for and managed in a proactive way.
This can avoid a lot of emotionally charged reactive crises that can often result in people getting care that goes against their wishes.
In this video, Professor Reymond introduces to a framework for proactively managing patients in their last year of life.
