In Europe, new drugs for the treatment of acute migraine include medication which combines Sumatriptan and Naproxen
The main medications which are used to treat acute migraine in Australia include triptans and NSAIDs.
“It’s probably true that triptans and NSAIDs are working in the same process to relive pain for patients with migraine, but at different points,” says Associate Professor Richard Stark, neurologist at The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne.
Professor Stark says that in Europe new drugs for the treatment of acute migraine include medication which combines Sumatriptan and Naproxen. But unfortunately, these drugs are not yet available in Australia.
“Patients in Australia can take separate tablets of Sumatriptan and Naproxen and they seem to get an added benefit from that,” Professor Stark says.
