There are a few options for women in menopause where HRT is contraindicated.
The most common alternative treatments are the SSRIs and desvenlafaxine, says Professor Bronwyn Stuckey, a clinical endocrinologist and the medical director at the Keogh Institute for Medical Research in WA.
However, small doses are advised. “The problem with some of those is that in high doses they themselves can cause flushing,” she says.
