There is overwhelming evidence that you need a combination of a genetic predisposition and our modern environment to become obese, Professor Joseph Proietto, an endocrinologist at The University of Melbourne, says.

“The evidence that there is a genetic predisposition comes from identical twin studies, from adoption studies and it’s very clear that that is the case,” he says.
