Which groups are most at risk of osteoporotic fracture?
The groups at high risk of osteoporosis and future fractures are those that have already had a minimal trauma fracture, says Professor Peter Ebeling, the medical director at Osteoporosis Australia.

“Unfortunately, you can’t chose your parents either,” he says. “If you have a family history, particularly of a hip fracture, you are at increased risk of getting osteoporosis.”
Smoking, high alcohol or caffeine intake, low calcium and low vitamin D can also increase the risk of osteoporosis.
