Telstra Health’s MedicalDirector software provides better efficiency, accuracy and inclusivity than ever before.
GP clinical and practice management software provider, MedicalDirector, part of the Telstra Health group, has made significant updates to its Pracsoft and Clinical digital health solutions to improve efficiency, data accuracy, and inclusivity within general practices, for example by adding MyMedicare enrolment status.
MedicalDirector’s electronic health record, Clinical, and practice management software, Pracsoft, have both been upgraded to version 4.3 and the updates aim to optimise practice management activity and streamline processes for improving the patient journey and patient care.
With the addition of MyMedicare administration and reporting capabilities, Clinical users can easily record a patient’s MyMedicare enrolment status, and Pracsoft users can identify and manage eligible patients through the newly added MyMedicare metric in Smart Visual Dashboards. Additional MyMedicare tools will be made available for MedicalDirector Clinical and Pracsoft users in the future.
Users can also now access the entire suite of tools across Telstra Health’s recently introduced Smart Connected Care, which is a single front door for connecting care and streamlining workflows. Among the tools accessible through the version 4.3 upgrade is Smart Research, providing GPs with on-demand access to education content from MedicalDirector and content partners, including continuing professional development accredited courses. Users can access the Smart Connected Care tools through the pre-installed Smartbar (formally called ‘Sidebar’).
In addition, MedicalDirector Clinical version 4.3 is conformant with the new mandatory immunisation fields for the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR), allowing users to record and submit new data fields.
For Clinical users of version 4.3, Progress Notes can be added at any point in the patient workflow through a new floating panel. Furthermore, the email process is now more secure and streamlined as emails can be sent directly from a patient’s record and email attachments in PDF format are password protected.
Users of Pracsoft that upgrade to version 4.3 can benefit from more streamlined patient claiming and bulk claiming processes with Services Australia through the Patient Claim Interactive workflow, in addition to a new optimised billing process through automatic updates to MBS and DVA fees.
Pracsoft’s Appointment Book has also been enhanced to include improved referral search behaviour, enabling smoother appointment scheduling and patient management. Furthermore, a new Bulk Online Verification check enables users to simultaneously complete Online Patient Verification, Online Concession Verification, and Online Veteran Verification for all patients.

When it comes to prescribing medication for patients, the updates to Clinical also allow for more efficiencies in searching for medication, as well as improved immunisation recording abilities and options for adding new funding models.
The enhancements to Pracsoft and Clinical have been designed with gender inclusivity at the forefront, for example the ‘Gender’ field has been renamed to ‘Sex at Birth’ and there are new options for recording a patient’s gender identity and preferred pronouns.
MedicalDirector’s Pracsoft and Clinical are fully integrated solutions, enabling users to securely access patient data in real time across the practice management and electronic health record solutions.
