Georgina van de Water will be the next college boss, following the shock dismissal of Paul Wappett in November.
Chief training officer Georgina van de Water has been announced as Paul Wappett’s successor as RACGP CEO.
In a message to members on Friday afternoon, board chair Dr Lara Roeske said Ms van de Water brought “extensive experience in senior leadership roles” to the job and had a track record of outstanding stakeholder engagement.
It’s been about three months since the college’s board announced it had sacked ostensibly high-performing CEO Paul Wappett.
The reason for his departure was never revealed, other than that the college did not allege any wrongdoing or illegal activity on Mr Wappett’s part.
Mr Wappett told The Medical Republic at the time that he was just as much in the dark about the board’s decision.

Ms van de Water previously served as the chief operating officer of the Western Sydney PHN before working as deputy CEO of regional training organisation GP Synergy.
She transitioned to a role as chief GP training officer at the RACGP when GP Synergy was absorbed by the RACGP in 2022.
At the time it was first announced, the RACGP-GP Synergy merger caught many by surprise – not least ACRRM, which was “surprised and disappointed” to learn of the strategic partnership.
Prior to WentWest, Ms van de Water was operations manager at hair loss clinic Ashley and Martin.
Associate Professor David Hillis will continue as CEO until the beginning of April, when Ms van de Water will officially step into the role.
