Talk 1: HRT cases
Dr Sonia Davison, endocrinologist, and clinical fellow at Jean Hailes for Women’s Health. Senior postdoctoral research fellow in the Women’s Health Research Program, Monash University.
This session will explore the management of menopausal vasomotor symptoms such as hot flushes and night sweats – which may be a marker of increased cardiovascular risk in later life – as well as lifestyle interventions, hormonal and non-hormonal treatments and new research.
Talk 2: Palliative care and drugs
Professor Liz Reymond, deputy director of Metro South Palliative Care Services and director of the Brisbane South Palliative Care Collaborative.
GPs are routinely caring for Australians with progressive chronic malignant and non-malignant conditions that usually lead to an expected death. This presentation discusses the use of eight medicines for the management of common terminal symptoms – pain, breathlessness, noisy breathing, nausea and vomiting, restlessness, agitation, anxiety and delirium. An app that familiarises primary care prescribers with these medicines will also be introduced.
Talk 3: COPD therapeutic update
Professor Ian Yang, thoracic physician, director of thoracic medicine at The Prince Charles Hospital, and Professor of the faculty of medicine at The University of Queensland. Chair of The National COPD Guidelines Committee of Lung Foundation Australia.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterised by persistent respiratory symptoms and chronic airflow limitation and is associated with exacerbations and comorbidities. This presentation focuses on advances in the diagnosis and management of COPD, including the use of both non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatment to control symptoms and reduce exacerbation risk.
