No CPD extension this year, decrees the Board

There will be no CPD grace period for 2024, meaning all activities must be completed by EOY and recorded by 28 February 2025.

Unlike last year, there will be no CPD grace period for 2024, confirms the RACGP.

Last year, the CPD program was subject to a redesign requiring doctors to spend a total of 50 hours on CPD per year.

This includes at least 25 hours reviewing performance and measuring outcomes and 12.5 hours on traditional educational activities.

At the beginning of this year, the RACGP said that it had been given permission – by the Medical Board – to allow members to backdate CPD activities up to 31 March 2024 as part of the 2023 CPD year.

At the time, RACGP president Dr Nicole Higgins told The Medical Republic that while most RACGP members had already successfully met their CPD requirements, it had become evident over the year that some members were struggling to understand the new requirements.

Last week, the college told its members that all CPD Homes had been informed that doctors would not be able to claim activities completed in early 2025 as part of their 2024 requirements.

According to the college, the Medical Board said CPD activities for 2024 could continue to be reported until 28 February 2025.

Last year’s shakeup also required all registered doctors to choose a CPD provider, also known as a CPD Home, when completing their medical registration for 2024.

Currently, the accredited CPD Home providers include the specialist colleges, AMA WA’s DoctorPortal, Osler Technology and the Health Education and Training Institute (HETI).

As the cheapest of the third-party offerings available to all doctors, Osler’s CPD Home package weighs in at $249 per year, including a free three-month obligation free trial.

Currently, the CPD home with the closest price point is ACRRM’s, offering a $395 subscription per year

DoctorPortal Learning, the only other third-party offering for all doctors, is currently $440 a year for AMA WA members, while non-members will pay $880.

HETI offers its CPD Home services only to NSW-based doctors not affiliated with a specialist college, focusing on doctors in their early years of practice.

The RACGP includes CPD Home services in its membership fee, which is currently $1643 per year for full fees
