We chat to the president of the Rural Doctors Association about how to create and retain rewarding rural careers.
The Rural Doctors Association of Australia welcomed a new president this month, Dr Megan Belot, a GP anaesthetist in rural Victoria.
Taking over from immediate past president Dr John Hall, Dr Belot says that a priority for her two year term is to make sure junior doctors moving to the bush have appropriate professional support.
Working as both a hospital proceduralist and a general practitioner, Dr Belot says she understands the challenges faced by many parts of the rural healthcare system.
And interestingly, she’s also the first elected leader of any of the GP peak bodies to have completed the full training pathways to become a fellow of both the RACGP and ACRRM.
This episode we are joined by Dr Belot to discuss her own experiences as a rural generalist and how this will inform her time as the leader of the RDAA.
