GPs can claim $1000 after imunising 50 aged care or disability support workers and $20 for each worker thereafter.
GPs will be able to claim a practice incentive payment of $1000 once they have given one dose of a covid-19 vaccine to 50 aged care or disability support workers, and an extra $20 per dose for every worker after that.
These payments, available for the next three months, are in addition to the per-patient fees under the existing MBS covid arrangements.
To qualify for the payment, practices must have delivered the vaccine doses via an in-reach vaccination clinic.
While the count to the minimum 50-dose threshold is cumulative – so doses given over multiple days or locations will stack – vaccines delivered to aged care or disability workers who presented to a clinic of their own accord will not count.
The Department of Health funding is part of a bid to support primary care vaccination providers in the lead-up to 17 September, when it will become mandatory for all residential aged care workers to have received at least one dose of a covid vaccine.
Payments can be backdated to 29 April so long as the practice has sufficient evidence, but the payments can only be claimed until 31 October.
To access the funding, vaccination details can be lodged via the DoH’s Covid-19 Vaccine Administrative System from Thursday 12 August.
Payments will then be made through PIP in November.
GPs running in-reach vaccination clinics are able to access a dedicated allocation of Pfizer vaccines for aged care or disability support staff, and can also access additional Pfizer doses through their PHN.
These additional doses can also be used to vaccinate residents.
