Contactless claims roll out for HCF members

HCF CEO described the venture as a ‘first to disrupt and better the healthcare payment system’.

HCF members will be able to claim on the spot after a national rollout of its new QR code, following a successful trial.

Developed in collaboration with National Australia Bank-owned HICAPS, the digital memberships allow members to process EFTPOS transactions and Medicare and health fund claims with a single tap.

The QR code is accessible on the HCF My Membership app, and uses the HICAPS-owned Trinity terminals, which are available for all private health insurers. The terminals are also designed for telehealth claiming and integration with practice management systems.

“QR code claiming is a significant step forward and one we believe will help markedly improve the overall claims, and payments experience,” said NAB executive for merchant services Mr Rayner said.

“The ongoing rollout of HICAPS’ Trinity terminals is progressing at pace and with more than 28,000 already in market, we’re on schedule to fully transition all providers to our new terminals over the next few months.”

HCF CEO Sheena Jack said the venture was an example of the new, no-contact methods which emerged from the covid pandemic.

“Giving members the flexibility to claim on the spot with a quick and easy scan of their HCF membership QR code offers them a convenient and secure alternative to carrying a physical card,” she said.

“Our new QR code on-the-spot claiming functionality represents a first to disrupt and better the healthcare payment system for our members, and essentially, for all Australians.”
