Non-invasive prenatal testing, or NIPT, is a highly accurate screening test for Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome, Patau syndrome and (if selected) DiGeorge syndrome.
Dr Melody Caramins, genetic pathologist, told an audience at the GP19 conference in Adelaide said the test should be offered to all pregnant women.
But the cost of the screening is a significant barrier for patients in Australia.
