The current role of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is outlined in the International Menopause Society’s Global Consensus Statement on HRT.

The consensus statement says that HRT is the most effective treatment for vasomotor symptoms at any age, and the benefits outweigh the risks for symptomatic women under the age of 60 or within 10 years of menopause.

HRT is effective and appropriate for osteoporosis-related fractures in at-risk women over the age of 60 or within 10 years of menpause, Dr Sonia Davison, an endocrinologistbased in Victoria, says.
