Answering the phones in a clinic, even for a day, would give the public a better appreciation of what GPs do.


GPs have been facing increased stress from working during the covid pandemic, exacerbating the existing feelings of being undervalued and under appreciated.

And there is also a general misunderstanding of how GPs are paid, with some of the public seeing Medicare as ‘bonus’ payments which supplement an existing salary.

This episode we are joined by Dr Wendy Burton, a Queensland GP and advocate for primary care through her website GPs can.

Dr Burton says that if everyone worked as a GP receptionist, even for a day, it would provide a valuable lesson into how the small businesses of primary care really operate.
